VEHICLE No. 4 [SERVING]

Everyone wants to live a life that matters. We want to be remembered as someone who made a  difference in other people’s lives. We want to leave a positive legacy with our families, friends, and children. As you may already know, it’s a sad day when you come to the realization that  everything that has been driving your life has been selfish and eternally meaningless. From this point on, that doesn’t ever have to be you. As of right now, you can begin changing the fuel that drives you.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I  give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NIV)

Love is a self-sacrificing surrender for the good of another person. Or more simply put, love is living for the other person’s good. Love is an action verb, and it demands much of us. For instance, if the goal of your life is all about your own comfort, success, and riches, you’re surely missing out on all that God has planned for you.

Not only do you miss the opportunity to really matter in someone else’s life, but you also miss out on closeness with God. The apostle Paul reminds us of this as he talks about serving others in  Acts:

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work, we must help the weak,  remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 (NIV)

Vehicle No. 4: SERVING allows us to experience blessings directly from God. This process of living out His instructions and Him rewarding us for those actions builds a connection between God and us in a way few other things can.

Movement Day 21

TO DO

  • Think about the people who have really made a difference in your life. Remind yourself of the ways these people have served you, sacrificed for you, and helped you in life. Now ask God to help you become more like those people so you too can make a difference in others’ lives by serving them.
  • Ask God to show you the names and faces of people in your world you can begin serving this week.

TO READ

  • MATTHEW 21
  • PROVERBS 21
  • Write down one thought.

TO REMEMBER

Your choice to serve or not to serve others will affect how you are remembered in this life. Remember what really matters, what’s really important to you, and start acting on that thought immediately. God wants to be in a close relationship with you today, and part of that process can be accelerated by showing real love to those around you.
