SPIRITUAL VEHICLES

It’s time to hit the road. Over the next several days, you’ll be introduced to six spiritual vehicles  that God has tailor-made for us. Each one is designed to take us closer to Him than we are right  now. Whether this is a good reminder for you or completely new to you, this can be a life-altering journey. The journey toward God is like no other trip you will ever take. It will also  change your entire future. Let’s keep moving.

VEHICLE No. 1 [PRAYER]

God please don’t let me get a ticket! Help me pass this test. Bring me a date! God, I married on that date You got me, and now I really need help!

Every now and then we get desperate enough to throw up a prayer just in case it might actually change things. We’ve all done it. And guess what—it does, our prayers change things!

Prayer not only takes us closer to God, but it really does change things in the here and now. In  Exodus 17, God instructed Moses to go up on a mountain and lift his hands in prayer while  Joshua was fighting a battle in the valley below.

So, Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a  stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side,  one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Then Joshua overcame the  Amalekite army with the sword. Exodus 17:10-13 (NIV)

When Moses prayed, the Israelites began winning; when he stopped, they began losing. God was showing the Israelites then, and showing us today, that prayer really does change things. Prayer not only moves us closer to God, but it also changes things in our lives along the journey.
