VEHICLE No. 4 [SERVING]

Pretty much every vehicle ever invented has also been raced—either against other vehicles or at the very least—against the clock. And as you would imagine, everybody wants to win. You won’t hear many car companies bragging about a vehicle that finished last in their latest series of tests.

Not many airlines promote their “Slower Than Average” fleet. Why? Because travelers at every level want the fastest and most efficient means of travel possible. Nobody enters a race hoping for last place, which is what makes today’s Scripture so challenging.

Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the  servant of all.” Mark 9:35 (NIV)

God says that His kingdom works differently than the way most of the world works. While we live in a world that says, “What about me?” and “I’m going to get mine,” God flips that mentality completely upside down. He says, “If you want to be first in My Kingdom if you want to be close  to Me and experience the kind of life I have for you, it all starts with last place.” Winning with  God happens when you put the needs of others above Your own needs. God continues to explain  it like this:

And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be  served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45 (ESV)

Movement Day 20

TO DO

  • Spend some time examining your past or current definition of greatness and compare that to God’s definition.
  • Be honest with yourself. Do you look for ways that people can serve you, or for ways that you can serve other people?
  • Ask God to begin showing you people you can begin serving today.

TO REMEMBER

This is about moving into a deeper relationship with God. Through SERVING, God is helping you learn to love the way He loves and to care the way He cares. As you show others the love of God through service, you’ll find that you start experiencing the love of God for yourself. God wants you to make a difference in this lifetime, as well as a real connection with Him. These things start by SERVING others.
