VEHICLE No. 3 [RELATIONSHIPS]

The Indianapolis 500, an event billed as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” is one of the most significant sporting events in the world. Cars go over 200 miles per hour, and the drivers of those cars experience g-forces equivalent to that of a space shuttle launching. People around the globe watch the race each year as drivers risk their lives for millions of dollars, a trip to victory lane,  and prestige that only winning, money, and fame can provide.

But every winner of the race has had a pit crew working hard to make it happen. During a typical  500-mile race, a driver will make many stops to allow the crew to change tires, refuel the car and perform needed mechanical tweaks. Since the race can be won or lost by less than a second,  whatever a pit crew does or doesn’t do during those stops can determine whether the driver wins or loses. The Bible says the same idea applies to our lives.

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20 (ESV)

Your “crew” will oftentimes determine your success or failure in life. Those people closest to you will affect your relationship with God. Relationships are NOT neutral; they are taking you somewhere. Each relationship you have is taking you closer to God or dragging you farther from  Him.

Spiritual Vehicle No. 3 is RELATIONSHIPS. Choosing the right people to rely on, spend time with,  and do life with can take you closer to God faster than you ever imagined. The RIGHT  relationships will build your faith and inspire you on this journey. The WRONG relationships will mock your decisions, question your faith, and tempt you to move farther from God than you are today. That’s the opposite of what you’re looking for! Choose your crew wisely because it can make or break the entire race.
